South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a Republican, promised her constituents in a Twitter thread Friday that she has no intention of regulating and ruining their Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays over the coronavirus pandemic.
Instead all she’s going to do is offer them some sensible guidelines and then let the age-old tenet of personal responsibility take care of the rest.
“In South Dakota, we won’t stop or discourage you from thanking God and spending time together this Thanksgiving,” she bluntly wrote.
“I’ll continue to encourage each and every one of you to exercise personal responsibility and make smart choices.”
Versus dumb choices such as attending a crowded birthday party inside a “closed-off room” without wearing a mask or practicing social distancing.
Thanksgiving is around the corner, and across the country families are planning how to celebrate with their loved-ones in the midst of #COVID19.

She continued by briefly contrasting her approach with that being pursued by hypocritical Democrat politicians and their hypocritical media allies.
“Thanksgiving is around the corner, and across the country families are planning how to celebrate with their loved-ones in the midst of #COVID19,” she said.
“Some states across the country are imposing restrictions on Thanksgiving celebrations. Some in the media are even looking ahead and planning to cancel Christmas.”
But not her, though that doesn’t mean that Noem, a mother of three children, doesn’t plan to offer some motherly advice to all revelers this holiday season.
“As you dig in to enjoy that delicious turkey and stuffing, make sure that everyone in your household is practicing good hygiene. Wash your hands. If someone in your family is in the vulnerable population, take extra precautions to keep them safe,” she wrote.
“Let’s make sure to use common sense when we’re planning our celebrations. If you or someone in your family is sick or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, it may be best to stay home and join your loved-ones over FaceTime, Skype, or another app.”
Unfortunately, common sense tends to be in limited supply these days, particularly among the same breed of far-left Democrats who love to lecture and regulate others.

The South Dakota governor concluded her post by reminding her constituents of Thanksgiving’s purpose.
“Let’s all take the time to remember what Thanksgiving is all about – thanking God for everything that he has blessed us with in our lives. During difficult times, it’s important to be extra thankful for what we have,” she wrote.
“This year, my family will send up thanks for the years we’ve spent with each other and the years to come. We’ll also thank God that we get to live in the greatest nation in human history, one founded on the key principles of freedom, equality, and opportunity. I’m thankful for the tremendous opportunity to serve the people of South Dakota and for the trust that you’ve shown me throughout this pandemic. Thank you, and may God richly bless your Thanksgiving.”
Her message provoked two types of responses. The first came from aggrieved leftist authoritarians who seemingly don’t even live in the state but were exasperated nevertheless over the governor’s decision to grant her constituents freedom.
Common sense and intelligence to make smart decisions? Half the state is infected with COVID because they DON’T have said intelligence OR common sense.
…clearly the American people are over-rated.

FYI, according to polling data from the Argus Leader published last month, Noem enjoys a 71 percent coronavirus-handling approval rating among the state’s actual citizens.
Some of these very citizens rushed to their keyboards to lavish their governor with praise. So did plenty of extremely envious out-of-staters.
Thank you Governor Noem. I’m so proud to live in the great State of South Dakota and super proud of your leadership! Thank you for following the constitution. I’m truly sorry for all the mean comments from frightened, misinformed people.

One governor out of 50 that actually gets it. Politicians serve the people, not rule them.

Thank you for showing these other cowards what leadership looks like. You have been a breath of fresh air in these crazy times.

Thank you for having this position. South Dakota sure has an amazing and caring Governor. I would vote for you in a second from here in Texas if I could.

Thank you for showing real leadership! Maybe you can swing through Illinois and let Lightfoot and Pritzker know how to lead!

God Bless you @govkristinoem you’re a great Governor. We shouldn’t be keeping people apart bring them close together especially during the holidays. With a 99% survival rate people can make their own decisions. Thank you, I may have to move to South Dakota.

South Dakota reportedly boasts the second lowest unemployment ranking in the entire country thanks to Gov. Noem’s enduring refusal throughout the entire coronavirus crisis to lock her constituents down and shutter their businesses and lives.
“There’s consequences to what we’ve seen happen in other states — that shutting down businesses, stopping people’s way of life has some devastating impacts. We’re taking a very balanced approach,” she said in August.
A balanced approach that, unlike the approaches of her gubernatorial Democrat peers, isn’t steeped in endless hypocrisy and double standards.
