A SWAT team has surrounded a Sonic restaurant in Nebraska after reports of an ‘active shooter’ as flames engulfed a vehicle outside.

KETV reports that Sgt Andy Jashinske with Bellevue Police says one person is in custody. Several people are injured.

Omaha World-Herald reporter Jessica Wade shared video of a huge police presence at the Sonic in the 1300 block of Cornhusker Road in Bellevue reporting that there had been an active shooter. 

Videos from the scene show firefighters battling the flames.

Emergency crews responded to the scene around 9.30pm Saturday.

More then 20 law enforcement vehicles responded to the scene according to the Omaha World-Herlad and there are reportedly six ambulances.

Several people were injured. One person has been taken to hospital in a critical condition. 

Bellevue Police tweeted: ‘A large police presence for an active investigation near 15th and Cornhusker. AVOID THE AREA. MORE UPDATES TO FOLLOW.’
